Chez Mimosa Craftwork

The crochet bags, embroidered pouches, little amigurumi dolls, and woven baskets in our shop are all handmade by H’mong and Thai women from Northwest Vietnam, in the Sa Pa region.

These are pieces made by artisans, not by factories. Every piece has slight variations, and that’s what gives them their charm. The know-how is traditionally passed down from mother to daughter, and making them takes time — expect about a month of work for one hand-embroidered bag.

The beads, crochet flowers, and metallic finishes you’ll see on some bags are all sewn on one by one, by hand. You can find these creations at our hotels, and buying them goes directly toward the artisans’ income. Lastly, Chez Mimosa Hotel also supports local organizations, including through our Sunday evening sewing workshops.

On Sunday evenings, our restaurant corner is set aside for sewing classes for autistic children. The crochet and embroidery pieces in our shop are actually used as material for these workshops, which combine hands-on learning with work on focus and motor skills.
