Meet in central Ho Chi Minh and settle into an air-conditioned bus for your approximately 1.5-hour ride to the Cu Chi Tunnels.
During your journey, listen to an overview of the tunnels’ history from your guide, learning how Viet Cong troops used them to shelter from, and launch attacks on, American and Southern Vietnamese forces during the 1956-1975 Vietnam War.
Watch a documentary showing how the tunnels often formed hideouts for entire villages, and descend underground for a guided tour. Walk by areas used as arsenals, hospitals, sleeping quarters, and kitchens; and learn how inhabitants overcame the hardships of their subterranean world.
Afterward, sample boiled manioc (cassava), a dish that sustained the Viet Cong guerrillas, and if you wish, visit a shooting range (own expense) to try firing an AK-47 or MK 16 machine gun.
Your tour then finishes at the original departure point.
